Anti-Racism

When it was time for Tanorria to leave her corporate career she knew she couldn’t leave Diversity & Inclusion behind.  Her passion for bridging gaps, celebrating differences, and fostering an environment where everyone feels welcomed and valued is exactly why “the table” is so important.  The table is where difficult and uncomfortable conversations take place.

You can hear a sample of Tanorria’s efforts in curating an anti-racists culture on a few of the podcast she has been featured on:

If you want to advocate for people of color you have to do the eye-opening, difficult work it takes to learn our history.

Anti-racism: laying the foundation workshop

Everyone should have a basic understanding of diversity and inclusion. While diversity includes a myriad of variables, race is always at the forefront. Conversations about race are never easy, but they are always necessary. Leaders can lead the charge in getting comfortable with the discomfort of these conversations. These important conversations lead to reconciliation.

 Topics that will be discussed:

  • What is racism

  • What is privilege

  • Stereotypes & how to dismantle them

  • Why race reconciliation is important

  • How do you begin doing the work

Tanorria will work closely with leadership and team members to determine gaps within the organization as it relates to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.

 The process:

  • A deep dive with leadership on the understanding of diversity and inclusion (D&I) and how it relates to the culture of your organization.

  • An assessment of your organizations culture.

  • A safe space for all employees to “speak up” about any past or present issues related to D&I.

  • A brief survey to assess the pulse of D&I.

  • A review of employee engagement and employee retention at your organization.

  • A breakdown of gaps related to D&I at your organization.

  • A plan to incorporate best practices through the organization in order to lead the charge in being a diverse, inclusive, and anti-racist organization.

Anti-Racism Resources to Create Equity

Friends, I'm so excited about this. This is a labor of love. Something I've poured a lot of time, energy, and tears into. I have read (most) of these books, I have watched these films and videos. I have researched and taken notes and discussed these resources with the people I love. This is important. Not just to me, but hopefully to you, too.

There has been as much information as there has been solidarity over the last few weeks. While this information has always been present, I think it's important to keep it at the forefront. I stand firm that it is not the job of a black person to educate anyone on racial injustice, untold history, and how to move forward. That is why I created this resource for you to do your own work.

This is a journey. It cannot be taken lightly. It is not easy. It is one you go on forever. This resource guide is simply a starting point. It is not a list that you can work down to check off and say you are done. It is the start of doing the work to ensure that you and the people around you are diverse and inclusive. Most importantly, it's a resource guide for you to create a table that not only ensures equality, but also equity.

Consider purchasing at least two of these books this week as work towards blacking out bestsellers lists this week, with black voices. If you're not "a reader", like me, download the audiobooks. I even gave you a list of things to watch and listen to. Start here. Start somewhere. DO THE WORK.

Choosing Tanorria to emcee our women’s event was one of the key elements that made our day incredible. Not only was she professional and prepared, she was herself on the stage; funny, honest, and engaging. She SHOWED UP for us and helped our attendees show up, too.
