026 Called: Doing The Work You're Called To Do, Part 2
Candace and Tanorria are back with part 2 of; Called, do you know what you’re called to do? With Ericka Sanders of the You yes you, project.
Take a listen as the group dives into how incarceration affects more than just the incarcerated. Grab your seat, this group goes deep.
Born and raised in Indianapolis, Ericka Sanders is a journalist at heart. Writer for The Indianapolis Recorder from 2001 – to 2007, Sanders covered topics from the Indiana Pacers to an award-winning series on the historic Ransom Place neighborhood.
Leveraging her own experience and passion for connecting people, Sanders hosted the first Father/Daughter Dance inside an Indiana prison facility in 2014 as a one-off idea to reunite families. Noticing the incredible opportunity to edit the very prison system itself, Sanders became a voice for the voiceless within incarcerated men and their children. Blossoming into what is now the You Yes You! Project, Sanders has made significant strides in the reduction of recidivism in Indiana and has connected more than 100 daughters with their incarcerated fathers through programming including father/daughter dances, Halloween parties, book clubs, workshops and more.
A recipient of United Way of Central Indiana’s inaugural Social Innovation Funding and a 2021 Impact 100 of Indianapolis Change Maker Grant Finalist, Sanders is rethinking and reshaping the prison system and its impact on both fathers and families. Beyond her passion for reconnecting families, Sanders enjoys time with her husband of 14 years, 13-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter.
