Spicy Sweet Onion Ketchup
I love making homemade ketchup for clients. I even make a paleo version that doesn’t contain refined sugar. This ketchup comes with a kick and is fantastic for dipping french fries!
Spicy Sweet Onion Ketchup
Ingredients
Spicy Sweet Onion Ketchup
- 1 6 oz can tomato paste
- 12 oz water (I just fill up the tomato paste can twice to get all the good stuff out)
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients into a small pot and whisk together until combined. Bring ingredients to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook until mixture has reduced to about half.
- Remove from heat and allow ingredients to cool. Serve with hot fresh cut french fries, on a burger, or anything else you put ketchup on!
- Store in the fridge in an airtight container for up to a month.
Notes
You can also make this if you have sweet onion sugar. I get mine from farmer’s markets or gift and hobby shows. If using sweet onion sugar, reduce the sugar by half and add in 2 Tbsp of sweet onion sugar. You will also only want to use 2 tsp of onion powder instead of 1 whole tbsp.
