Lemon Vanilla Simple Syrup

JUMP TO RECIPE

Simple syrups are a lost delicacy. Okay, I’m being dramatic, but they really are amazing and I don’t think people make them enough! Simple syrups are exactly what they are called…SIMPLE! You basically take some water and some sugar and turn it into syrup. You have the option to add other delicious things to it, or you can leave it as is.

They are great to add to cold beverages because you don’t have to worry about making sure the sugar is dissolved, but they are also great in tons of other things. For example, cocktails! They store for a while in the fridge and also make a great gift packaged in a mason jar with a cute pitcher and some lemons!

I whipped up a Bourbon Vanilla Lemonade recipe to help us with another week of #rona and decided simple syrup was perfect because it leaves me with about a cup and a half left to make other delicious things.

Lemon Vanilla Simple Syrup

Simple syrups are exactly what they are called…SIMPLE! You basically take some water and some sugar and turn it into syrup. You have the option to add other delicious things to it, or you can leave it as is.

Ingredients

Lemon Vanilla Simple Syrup
  • 3 cups of water
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 lemon, zested
  • 1/2 vanilla bean, split open (or 1/2 teaspoon vanilla bean paste or 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract)

Instructions

  1. Combine water, sugar, and lemon zest into a medium saucepot. You can save the lemon and its juice for the lemonade you’re going to make.
  2. Split vanilla bean open and drop into water mixture. No need to scrape the seeds out. They will come out on their own as the mixture comes to a boil.
  3. Bring mixture to a boil. Turn heat off and let the syrup sit until cooled. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
